East Liverpool, Ohio, USAThe first settlement in Liverpool Township along the Ohio River took place in 1795. It was first named St. Clair, later changed to Fawcettstown then in 1816 changed to Liverpool before finally becoming East Liverpool in 1834. The reason it was called East Liverpool was that there was another city named Liverpool in the state of Ohio at the time.

Liverpool became famous for ceramics and gained the nickname of "America's Crockery City".

The situation is interesting as, like the original, there is a Chester located "over the water" on the other side of the river.
