The Royal Liver Building at the Pier Head [Photo: Ron P Smith]The Royal Liver Building, designed by Aubrey Thomas was built as the offices of the Royal Liver Friendly Society and was completed in 1912. It was the second of three major buildings at the Pier Head.

The clock with faces bigger than London's "Big Ben" was designed and constucted by Gent and Company Ltd. It was the largest electrical turret clock in England.

The two Liver Birds on the towers above this seventeen story building are actually 18 feet high.
