Adelphi Hotel of 1912 [Photo: Ron P Smith]The first Adelphi Hotel was built in 1868-1869 on the site of the White Horse Tavern and was owned by the Midland Railway Company. Charles Dickens described the hotel as the best in the world. It's clients included the luxury Trans-Atlantic passenger traffic. The hotel was rebuilt in 1912 to the designs of Frank Atkinson.

The Adelphi's "Sefton Suite" is a replica of the First Class Smoking Lounge of White Star's "Titanic".
