Fazakerley station was opened on the 20th of November 1848 with the original name of Simonswood. It was also named Aintree for a short time and became Fazakerley in 1860.
The station once formed part of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway but is now part of the Merseyrail network on the Northern Line branch that runs to Kirkby.
