Liverpool's Exchange Station opened on the 13th of May 1850 and was the terminus for the Lancashire & Yorkshire before nationalisation and the formation of British Rail. Exchange was one of three main railway termini in central Liverpool. As well as main lines train services to other cities, the L&Y electric service to Southport also terminated here.

The photo shows the platforms serving the Southport route in the mid 1970s. Exchange station was demolished after the creation of the Moorfields underground station which now enables trains from Southport to continue further south as part of the Merseyrail "Northern Line".
