The original Brunswick station was part of Cheshire Lines and openend on the 1st of June 1864. The station closed and became part of an adjacent goods depot, after less than ten years, on the 2nd of March 1874. It had been the line terminus until Liverpool Central opened that year. The current station is a new Merseyrail "Northern Line" station situated between Liverpool Central and Saint Michael's stations.

The photo on the right shows the station looking towards Liverpool Central.
