Bootle Oriel Road station is situated on the Liverpool and Southport line originally owned by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. It now forms part of the Merseyrail "Northern Line" and is located between "Bank Hall" and "Bootle New Strand" stations.

The photo on the right shows Bootle Oriel Road station in the mid 1970s with a train of ex LMS Electric Multiple Units (EMU) led by M28343M heading south to Liverpool .
