Birchwood is a relatively new station located on the former Cheshire Lines Committe line that ran between Liverpool Central and Manchester Central. The station is the next one east of Padgate in Warrington.

The photo on the right shows a view from the west bound platform which now provides a service to Liverpool Lime Street station.
