Bidston station now forms part of Merseyrail's "Wirral Line" and sits between Birkenhead North and Leasowe stations on the branch to West Kirby. An interesting feature of the station is that it is used by both diesel and electric trains on one of it's platforms. The West Kirby bound platform is also used by diesel multiple units which terminate at Bidston for trains travelling to and from Upton and beyond.

The photo on the right shows the trackwork west of the station as seen from the limit of the platform. The train shown in the picture has just left Bidston for West Kirby while the tracks to the left of the view (without electric "third rail") connect to Upton.
