Paul was born James Paul McCartney on the 18th of June 1942 at Walton Hospital, where his mother had previously worked as sister in charge.

The McCartney's lived at Speke and then later at Forthlin Road, Allerton.

At age 14, Paul decided he wanted a guitar. In the summer of 1956, he first met John Lennon at Woolton Parish Church after he went to see him performing in "The Quarrymen". Paul later did some playing himself and John was impressed. About a week later, Paul accepted an offer to join John's group which ultimately became The Beatles.
