In 1618, one of Liverpool's greatest sons, Jeremiah Horrox was born in Toxteth. Horrox may have been a pupil of Richard Mather, the puritan minister of Toxteth Chapel who emigrated to America. At age 14 in 1632, Horrox gained a place at Cambridge. He went on to become famous for his astonomy work which fifty years later was used as the basis of work done by Isaac Newton. |
