The Isle of Man Railway Company was the first railway company on the island being registered on the 19th of December 1870. The first line was between Douglas and Peel and was opened in 1873 with the train being drawn by "Sutherland". The line to Port Erin via Castletown and Port St.Mary opened in 1874. The Manx Northern Railway Company opened it's line between Ramsey and St.Johns in 1879 and the mineral line to Foxdale was opened in 1886.
