The Isle of Man (or Ellan Vannin in the Manx language) is an island located in central Britain. It lies in the Irish Sea between Ireland (to the west), Scotland (to the north), England (to the east) and Wales (to the south). It has been governed independently since the year 979.

In the year 1154, the diocese of "Sodor and Man" was formed from Sodor (or South Isles which already contained Man). In 1266 a connection between Sodor and Man and Norway was severed (Ref #1).

The island is about 33 miles long and 12 miles wide with more than a 100 miles of often rugged coastline. The resident population of the island is about 75,000.

The Isle of Man is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has no extremes of temperature. The monthly average hours of sunshine is 130 while in April, May and June it is 210 hours per month (Ref #2).

On the right here is a selection of views of the island taken during all four seasons of the year and and amongst those included on this web site.
