The name "Halsall" has been on the Isle of Man for many years. The earliest record of the name on the island is from 1502 when Sir Henry Halsall was associatd with the Lord of Mann. A small number of Manx Halsalls have been identified prior to the year 1600 from records. Some other past recorded Manx Halsalls are:- Arthur Halsall - Soldier & 'Porter of Fellons' at Castle Rushen in 1697 [Ref #13]
There was a "Halsall’s House" in the Peel area which is referenced on page 313 of 6 which appears to have been sold around 1742. "Halsall's School" “for the free eduction of girls” was in College Lane in Castletown. "Halsall's Hill" comprises a croft and land in the parish of Kirk Malew. A list of all Halsalls/Halsals recorded in the Manx Census for the years 1841 to 1901 inclusive is available. Our William John Halsall is buried in Braddan Cemetery and his grave is situated "back to back" with that of Archibald Knox, the famous Manx Artist. |
